HESCOM has intensified repair and maintenance work on electrical infrastructure across Belagavi ahead of Ganeshotsav, which is scheduled later this month.
Maintenance work carried out on Sunday included removal of old power lines and electric poles. The work resulted in temporary power interruptions in several parts of the city, including Tilakwadi, Hindwadi, Goaves, Congress Road, Patil Galli, Tilak Chowk, Cantonment, Maruti Galli, Shivaji Colony, Mandoli Road, Shahapur and Kapileshwar, according to local reporting citing HESCOM.
Officials said the maintenance is being undertaken around 15 days before Ganeshotsav to address monsoon-related issues, including carbon deposits on power lines and inadequate clearance of overhead wires. Repair work was also carried out on a transformer near Siddhivinayak Temple in Pangul Galli, affecting supply to Pangul Galli and Bhendibazar.
HESCOM has indicated that maintenance work in the remaining areas will be carried out next week and has appealed to residents to cooperate with scheduled power interruptions.
The work is intended to improve the safety and reliability of the electricity network during Ganeshotsav, when Belagavi sees increased activity around public mandals, decorations and festival installations.
