An Indian Army soldier and his wife died in a road accident near Manikwadi Cross on the Belagavi-Panaji Highway on Tuesday, September 8, according to a report published on September 10.
The deceased were identified as Yuvaraj Malik, 30, a serving Army personnel posted in Ahmednagar, and his wife Mohini Malik, 25. Yuvaraj, a resident of Jatage village, had returned to his native place on leave.
Police said the couple was travelling on a motorcycle after shopping when it collided with a truck at around 8 p.m. Yuvaraj died at the scene, while Mohini, who sustained serious injuries, later died at a hospital. Their last rites were conducted with state honours on Wednesday.
Khanapur police have registered a case against the truck driver and launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
