Belagavi district has emerged as one of Karnataka's top-performing districts in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme.
The recognition came during a two-day national PMFME Conclave held in New Delhi on August 24 and 25, 2026, marking six years of the scheme. H D Kolekar, Joint Director of Agriculture, Belagavi, received a memento and certificate from Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan in recognition of the district's performance.
Under PMFME, banks have sanctioned loans worth ₹97.1 crore to 1,279 micro food-processing entrepreneurs in Belagavi district. Subsidies totalling ₹36.6 crore were released during 2025–26, according to the report.
The Agriculture Department said coordination with banks and local administration helped identify eligible entrepreneurs and facilitate access to credit and subsidies.
Why it matters:
The recognition highlights Belagavi's growing micro-food-processing sector and could strengthen opportunities for small businesses, rural entrepreneurs and value-added agricultural enterprises across the district.
